The Holy Family, by Bartolome Esteban Murillo, is one of the masterpieces of the Louvre's collection.

Bartolome Esteban Murillo (1617–1682) was a Spanish Baroque painter. He is best known for his religious paintings, but he also did works that focused on women and children, that offer a realistic view into life during the 1600s. Among his best known works are Madonna of the Rosary, A Boy Drinking, The Marriage of the Virgin, and The Beggar Girl. This painting, titled The Holy Family, is housed in the Louvre in Paris. It is one of the masterpieces of the Louvre's collection, beautiful alike in conception, coloring, and composition, with all the merits of the artist in evidence, and most of his weaknesses conspicuous by their absence.
