FEMALE GENITALIA, DRAWING

Usual representation of the feminine reproductive apparatus in anterior view (fallopian tubes unfolded forward, uterus and vagina in frontal cut-away view). The feminine genital organs, from the top to the bottom : -the vagina : canal that extends between the cervix uteri and the external genital organs. - the cervix uteri : that connects the low part of the uterus to the vagina. - the uterus : matrix in which the fetus develops. It is a hollow organ, piriform, with thick wall, composed of two parts : the body of the uterus in the superior part and the cervix, more narrow, that opens into the vagina. It also communicates with the fallopian tubes. - the fallopian tubes : (or uterine tubes) canals that transport the ovum towards the uterus. - the utero-ovarian ligaments : (or proper ovarian ligaments) strips of conjonctive tissues that connect the ovaries to the fallopian tubes and to the external superior border of the uterus body. - the ovaries : female reproductive glands. Lobular organs responsible for the maturation and the production of ova. They are located at each side peritoneal cavity and are linked to the fallopian tubes and to the external superior border of the uterus by the utero-ovarian ligaments. This illustration is part of a series concerning the menstrual cycle and the gynecological pathologies.
