Old style train on a scenic railway in Japan

The 'Romantic Train", which operates on the Sagano Scenic Railway from Kyoto to the north west through the scenic Hozu Valley. It runs on the old alignment of the JR Sagano Line, and it is a very popular tourist atraction. Train trips are often combined with rafting on the Hozu River for the return journey. This station is at the mid-point of the journey - Torokko Hozukyo station. The railway is also known as Sagano Sightseeing Railway, Sagano Scenic Line, Sagano Kanko Tetsudo and Sagano Kanko-sen. The carriages are known as torokko, a word derived from the English word for truck, though the carriages are not actually freight trucks.
