But thesearduous duties did not prevent him from turning his attention to other occupa-tions, and for some time he has been engaged in telephone, real estate and hotelbusiness. Mr. Logan has ever manifested a deep interest in political affairs, butdid not become identified with the Republican party until 1862. A firm beliefin the principles of that party led him to place his faith with it. and a loyal devo-tion to the cause of the L nion prompted him to raise a company and join the31st Illinois regiment in 1862. Miller is a native of New York State; he came to Chicago in thespring of 1874, being then twenty-seven years of age. He was a lawyer offour years standing when he came to Illinois, was licensed to practice law inhis adopted State, at once began the practice of his profession in Chicago, andduring the past twenty-six years has been one of the most active and prominentmen in the profession. He has been identified with many of the most importantcases litigated in the courts of Illinois; he has given a great deal of time andattention to questions involving the titles to real estate.
