As the compressor issingle acting, a free air space is obtained between the two pistons,hence no packing is used between them. As the high-pressurecylinder is in the end of the machine and a part of it, there isno packing subjected to a high pressure except the piston ringsand the gasket under the head. A pipe from the high-pressurecyhnder leads to a safety valve, and to a globe valve from whicha 2-in. riser is run into a 2 X l^-in. header, and into one ofthe tanks.
