Illustration depicting three types of incontinence: (from left to right) stress, urge, and overflow incontinence. The 3 types are illustrated in female anatomy (at top) and male anatomy (at bottom). Stress incontinence occurs when pressure on the bladder increases due to the pelvic floor relaxing. Urge incontinence is characterized by oversensitivity of the bladder caused by infection or neurological disorders. Overflow incontinence occurs in people who have a blockage of the bladder outlet (in this illustration, narrowing of the urethra).
