In der Einsamkeit der Südalpen liegt der Sylvan-See an den Hängen der Humboldt-Berge in den Südalpen Neuseelands, im Hintergrund sieht man den Mount Earnslaw und die Forbes Berge. In der Nähe wurden einige Szenen des Kinofilms "Herr der Ringe" gedreht.
