DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE. Between the Smithsonian Institution and the WashingtonMonument grounds is situated the Agricultural Department,between 12th and 14th sts. s. w. It is of brick, with brown-*tone trimmings; 170 feet long, 61 feet deep; designed byAdolph Cluss, and has a Mansard roof; finished in 1868. Itbears a resemblance to what the Palace of Versailles was whenonly a hunting chateau, before Louis XIV expended upon it therevenues of a Smithsonian.
