Chart of North-Western Europe showing Typical WeatherConditions, with the Wind North-Easterly, over the BritishIsles The region of highest pressure lies between the Hebrides and Iceland, with gentle gradients extending to and over the northern half of the Britisharea and the southern and central portions of Scandinavia. The area ofdepression is centred to the south-east with a considerable gradient reachingacross the southern half of the North Sea. This type of weather is the most favourable of all for intermigration, inboth spring and autumn, between the British area and Iceland ; while itis also propitious for movements between our shores and those ofScandinavia at both seasons. Such conditions are, however, unfavourable for movements to and fromthe British Isles and the countries lying to the south and south-east of them. PLATE O S- 10 15 20- .251 jg ^■Vy^ 1/^
