View E of a long mound just N of Llyn Llagi, Gwynedd, Wales, UK with stream running down Craig Llyn-llagi to rear. A peat mound at SH64884841, 23m x 8m aligned NNW-SSE, high at the N sloping down to at the S. The sides are revetted by vertical stone slabs, a vertical slab is set across the S end & a few slabs are laid flat on the mound. Officially the mound is recorded as a peat stand of unknown date but likely to be medieval/post-medieval. Peats were cut stacked & dried for domestic fuel, some peat stacks were abandoned others became the bases of platforms, stands or stools used to lift the drying durves above the raised peat bog. Some consider the mound to be a ritual &/or funerary monument & Bronze Age cremations have been found in a few similar 'peat-stack bases'. The stream flows down from Llyn yr Adar. There is a prehistoric settlement overlain by post-medieval summer dwellings (hafod) across the stream immediately W of the long mound.
