Derecho thunderstorm. A derecho (Spanish for 'straight') is a severe storm comprising of a squall line (a fast-moving band of thunderstorms) and a powerful straight-line wind. A straight-line wind has similar wind speeds to a hurricane, but the air moves in the direction of movement rather than in a cyclical motion as in hurricanes. Photographed in Kansas, USA.
