Sunrise view of the Salar de Uyuni from the Isla del Pescado, a hilly and rocky outcrop of land in the middle of the salt flats
Salar de Uyuni (or Salar de Tunupa) is the world's largest salt flat at 10,582 square kilometers (4,086 sq mi). It is located in the Daniel Campos Province in Potosí in southwest Bolivia, near the crest of the Andes and is at an elevation of 3,656 meters (11,995 ft) above sea level. The Isla del Pescado takes its name from the fish-like appearance of the island's reflection in the wet season. The island is made of fossilized coral covered in 1000-year-old cacti and is right in the middle of the Salar.
