When twelve to fifteen inches high, the soil should be loosened by the use of the plow or hoe and the plants be "; This operation consists of drawing the stems upright -with one hand, aud pressing the soil firmly against the plant with the other ; by this process the plants grow upright and can be easily cultivated and blauched by drawing the soil close up to the plant. Celery should receive thorough cultiva- tion if good results are desired. To store for winter use, select well drained ground, dig trenches I foot wide and deep enough to cover the tops of the plants. Pack the stalks in this in an upright position, covering with boards to shed the water, and in severe weather protect with straw or leaves. New Rose. In this variety we have a combina- tion of the best qualities of Celery. The red sorts surpass the white in flavor, and possess in their coloring a valuable feature as a table ornament. Early Arlington. An improvement on the Bos- ton Market, being earlier and of larger growth aud blanches rapidly. Boston Market. An excellent half dwarf sort of vigorous and bushy habit, producing many side shoots. Blanches perfectly white, is very ^weet, crisp and of excellent flavor. Dreer's Large White Solid. The best of the large growing sorts. Stalks firm, white and sweet, will not become pithy if grown on moist soil. Golden Dwarf. A standard variety of great merit. In size it is the same as the half dwarf kinds ; the heart is large, full aud of a fine golden yellow color. Henderson's Dwarf White. This variety is perfectly solid, the stalks half round. Whe
