Neurochip. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of nerve cells, or neurons, (blue) on a silicon chip (green). This is a neurochip, an electronic chip that is connected to living nerve cells. Such chips can be used to study the communication between nerve cells, giving a greater understanding of the human brain. Such research could lead to new treatments for disorders and diseases of the brain, such as Alzheimer's or Parkinson's diseases. Such research may also make it possible to attach computer chips directly to brain to augment its functions.
