Many of his ancestors were earlysettlers in New England, and participated in the early colonialwars and the revolution. In 1843 he came with his parents to Wisconsin, and he hasever since lived in the state In 1853 he graduated from RushMedical College, Chicago. July 14, 63, he was appointedSecond Assistant Surgeon of the 12th Wisconsin Infantry,after which he at once joined the regiment at Vicksburg,remaining with it until June 28, 64. On the 10th of October,63, he was appointed First Assistant Surgeon. June 28. 64. he was directed to accompany sick and. .. F B. BRYANT, 1st Lt. and R. Q. M. 4-93 wounded men from the front, near Kenesaw Mountain, to thehospital at Rome, Georgia, where he remained on duty tillJuly 28th, when he returned to the regiment,- then beforeAtlanta. August 1. 64. he accompanied sick and woundedin ambulances to the 17th Army Corps hospital at Marietta,near Atlanta, where he was on duty till the 14th of this he was at different times on duty with WordensBattalion, the 17th Wisconsin Infantry, the Pioneer Corps ofthe 3d Division of the 17th Army Corps, the 20th IllinoisInfantry, the 15th Ohio Battery, and the Artillery of the 3dDivision, 17th Army Corps, being medical officer of the threelast named organizations at the same time.
