A gallery was added in 1697 and in 1700 aplace was provided back of the seats for the guards to settheir arms. *Tn sitting, respect was paid to aged persons,the wives of church officers and magistrates, general militaryofficers and deaf persons. 1727-8 The second meeting house was built 80x65 feet,three stories high, two tiers of gallery, the upper one designedfor the slaves and other blacks to sit in. The plan of the housewas said to have been drawn by Governor Law, 1740.
