First Shuttle-Mir mission. Astronaut Bonnie Dunbar floats inside the Shuttle's Spacelab Science Module during Mission STS-71 of 27 June to 7 July 1995. At left is astronaut Norman Thagard who was the subject of many medical tests on this flight. STS-71 was the first Shuttle flight to dock with the Russian Mir space station. The incumbent Mir-18 crew (including Thagard) were returned to Earth and a new crew (Mir-19) delivered to the space station. During the mission, a variety of joint experiments were performed in both the Mir and Shuttle science modules.
