Among saw mills of an early date we might mention , erected on Snake Greek in 1808. Mr Sherwoods onFitch Creek was built about this time but is now in Kirkwoodtown, and Theodore Burrs, which was on the river in the northend of the town and was one of the best mills erected in thissection and one which sent thousands of feet of lumber downthe Susquehanna. In 1826 Luther Thurstin and Virgil Whitney were author-ized to build a dam across the Susquehanna between lots fourand seven of Binghams patent. This dam was to be submittedto three judges of the Court of Common Pleas, and a certificateto be obtained from them that the sluices were properly builtso that rafts, etc., could pass down without troubl
