We have many species of considerable size belonging to the.^enus Argynnis, which resemble each other more or less by their tawny upper sidesf^^- 254- marked with black spots, and by having the undersides more or less markedwith silvery blotches, es-pecially on the hind of themare injurious,the larvae feeding upon vio-lets. In the gennsGraptathere are species withstrongly and irregularlyangulated and toothed coiiiiiia. -Ill Wings, quite dark brownin color, with irregular black or blackish blotches, spots, andlines, and a little silvery mark resembling a comma or semicolonon the hind wings beneath.
