The prudence, recti-tude, and philosophic gravity of his conductwhile a boy, are also highly extolled by Chi-nese writers. At the age of seventeen, hewas made an inspector of the corn-marts, anddistinguished himself by his industry andenergy in repressing fraud and introducingorder and integrity into the whole only nineteen, he married, but di-vorced his wife four years after marriage,that he miirht have more time for study andthe performance of his public duties. Con-fucius was next appointed inspector-general.
