. Practical wireless telegraphy; a complete text book for students of radio communication . the magnetic field is regulatedby increase or decrease in the strength of the current flowing through the field winding- ELECTROMAGNETIC INDUCTION. 25 The field current is regulated by a device known as a field rheostat which is simply avariable resistance connected in series with the circuit. The voltage developed in any given dynamo coil is proportional to the rate of cuttingof the magnetic field. In the case of the rectangle A, B, of Fig. 20 or 21, the total fluxpasses in the coil twice and out twice during one revolution or during one cycle. If thecoil enclosed 100,000,000 lines of force and made one complete revolution per second,100,000,000 lines of force would be thrust into the coil twice and thrust out twice. Thiswould be the equivalent of cutting 400,000,000 lines of force per second and in thisparticular case the induced E. M. F. would be 4 volts. If the number of turns on thearmature winding were doubled, all other conditions remaining equal, the voltage would MO VOLT FIELD POLE 110 VOLTS 60-500 CYCLES
