Sow the seed in the early part of May and trans- plant in June. Purple Cape—A hardy and very popular variety. Pkt. 10c; Vz oz. 30c; oz. 50c. As early in the spring as the ground can be worked, sow the seeds—previously soaked in water for about 24 hours—in rows about a foot apart. Cultivate between the rows fre- quently to keep the soil loose and the weeds down. The sec- ond year the plants will be ready for planting in per- manent beds. Prepare the ground by working in a liberal quantity of barnyard manure. Set tlie plants from 15 to IS inches apart, or when large quantities are grown for market, set 3 or 4 feet apart, which permits horse cultivation. In plant- ing, spread out the roots carefully and cover with about 6 or 8 inches of soil. A rather sandy soil is best. Colossal—A well-known and excellent green variety.
