An Afro-Colombian homeless man tears out cardboards in front of the wall, covered with Champeta music propaganda, in the market of Bazurto in Cartagena, Colombia, 5 December 2018. Far from the touristy places in the walled city, a colorful, vibrant labyrinth of Cartagena’s biggest open-air market sprawls to the Caribbean seashore. Here, in the dark and narrow alleys, full of scrappy stalls selling fruit, vegetables and herbs, meat and raw fish, with smelly garbage on the floor and loud reggaeton music in the air, the African roots of Colombia are manifested.
