The piston heads are of the solid typewith a tapered fit on the rod. They are designed to taketwo rings of js-in. square fibre packing, which are held inplace by a steel follower ring. by E. Haes, Stellite does not get harder as it gets hotter,but it gets tougher and holds the cutting edge longer. Cobaltis not affected by heat up to about 1,900 deg.
