He was a bi-vocational minister until his retirement from carpentrywork in 1970; however, he never let this work interfere with thechurch work. He was available whenever anyone needed him, and hegladly used his carpentry skills to work on the church buildingswherever he was serving as pastor. At the age of four, following the death of his elderly father, DavidTucker, he was taken into the home of Frank and Nannie Tucker in theTuckerdale Community. Rev. Elihu Tucker, a well-known Baptist minister during the early1900s, was a half-brother to ASHE BA PTIST ASSOCIA TION He met his wife, Edith Roland, while she attended school nearby,and they were married April 21, 1926. They were blessed with 60years together, and she preceded him in death on October 7, death left a void in his life he was not able to overcome. Theirseven children survive: Betty, Patsy Lou, James, Max, Mabel, Nancyand Larry. Although he did not have many years of formal education, hestudied long hours on his sermons and always gave his best in hisministry. He loved the people in his pastorate, and rejoiced when anyunsaved persons came to know the Lord as their Savior. Surely our Lord has a Blessed reward for his faithful servant of manyyears.
