He built thefirst stationary circular saw-mill in the State, and was thefirst to manufacture furniture by machinery in that city,which has become so noted for its black-walnut built the canal on the west side of the river, and thelarger part of the manufacturing buildings in that district,and also on the east side some of the best business build-ings, including the Powers Opera-House
