Female urogenital system. Artwork from Bartolomeo Eustachi's Tabulae anatomicae, published in 1714. The major blood vessels run down the centre, with the veins green and the arteries red. The kidneys are at the top, with one shown whole (upper right) and the other's blood vessels shown (upper left). The ureters, which link the kidneys to the bladder, have been removed. Below lies the uterus (pink) with Fallopian tubes and ovaries at left and right. The bladder is at the bottom. Eustachi was an early Italian anatomist who died in 1574, before publishing much of his work. The plates were found over 100 years after his death, and published as the Tabulae with explanations by 18th-century anatomist Giovanni Maria Lancisi.
