In spite of the scarcity and abnor- mally high cost of labor, landscape gar- den architects are exceptionally busy this season and have many large con- tracts. The freight embargoes have se- riously delayed the arrival of nursery stock from New York, Connecticut and New Jersey and are greatly incon- veniencing planters. The Massachusetts department of ag- riculture has started sending out daily market reports to farmers and market gardeners sending produce into the Bos- ton markets. The Boston Market Gar- deners' Association is cooperating with the department in this work. The ar- rivals and prices of all locally grown fruits and vegetables are given, also shipments of fruits^ potatoes, eggs, etc., sent in from other states. Prices of live stock and meats are also included once a week. In the report for April 15 ar- rivals of lettuce are given as 33,222 bushels at an average of $ per boflhei, showing how important an in- dustry lettuce growing under glass is near Boston. If it were possible to tabu- late cut flower arrivals in some such way it would surely be of great value to growers. The cost for daily market reports is $3 per year. Miss Carrie E. Ball, of Southboro, is sending in extra fine lots of antirrhi- nums. She grows Phelps' White, Nel- rose and Virginia. The latter is a lovely
