This latter writer was also diocesanof the same see, and was born about the year 1160. But the circumstance which most conduced to the promotionof learning in Poland was the foundation of the University of Cracow, byCasimir the Great, in 1347. It was regulated in imitation of that of Paris,and such eminence had its professors attained in a short time that PopeUrban V estimated it, in 1364, as equal to any of the universities of Europe, c.
