Buckingham Road Extension, London, United Kingdom. Architect: Moxon Architects, 2011. Rear elevation.

This project, in the De Beauvoir Conservation Area in East London, provides a new two storey extension in addition to the complete strip out and refurbishment of an existing town house. The Material strategy treats the external surfaces of the house as a sequence of timber panels framed by a galvanised steel band. This strategy also relates to the sequence of spaces within the house where constrictions in an otherwise open plan have been controlled and manipulated to define the circulation and spatial hierarchy.
