Ancient Egyptian. Fragment of a Floral Inlay. 100 BC–100 AD. Egypt. Glass, mosaic technique Mosaic glass was made of bundlles of colored glass rods that were arranged in a pattern then fused together with heat into a solid cane. The cane was reheated and stretched to make a smaller compact design. Many nearly identical pieces could be cut from a single cane and then formed into inlays. Pairs of glass inlays cut from the same rod could be joined to make symmetrical compositions.
