Having been provided with break-fast by Messrs. Fremlin Brothers, of Maidstone, at theirpremises in Buckingham Palace Road, the Company tookup its position on the line of route, stretcher squadsbeing placed at intervals from Westminster Bridge toWhitehall Place and the Horse Guards. During the daythey rendered first-aid in no less than 153 cases, severalof which were of a somewhat serious nature. All ofthe members, however, had an excellent view of theProcession, and thoroughly enjoyed the days Maidstone Companies, (Vols.) 23 The Commanding Officer, Surgeon-Captain C. PyeOliver, received the Diamond Jubilee CommemorationMedal, in recognition of the services rendered by theCompany on this auspicious and historic were also awarded to twenty-eight non-com-missioned officers and men of the Company who heldSt. John Ambulance certificates. This honour, however,was only conferred after much correspondence with theSecretary of State for War, and the successful result waslargely owing to the good offices of F. S. W. Corn-wallis, Esq., who at that time represented Maidstone inParliament, and directed a question to the Home Secretaryon the subject.
