The week before Memorial day was, as usual, a somewhat quiet one. Ar- rivals were comparatively small. Con- siderable accumulations of pickled stock will appear, as usual, just before the great holiday and late shippers of such flowers will once again fail to make good. There is no likelihood of any oversupply of flowers. The season is about three weeks late here and no lilacs, Spiraea Vanhouttei, deutzias, Ger- man iris, Hemcrocallis flava and other hardy flowers will this year be avail- able, with only a limited number of Darwin and cottage tulips. But a good many of the early tulips and a fair number of short trumpet narcissi will be available. Many growers of spiraeas, candytuft, stocks and other Memorial day flowers have failed to get crops in on time, which means considerable loss. Roses are in good supply and they are cleaning up nicely. The quality is splendid, thanks to continued cool weather. Carnations are bracing up, but will not equLl Mothers' day prices.
