Smith visited MCAS Iwakuni for the first time as the III MEF commanding general. The site visit involved a tour of bachelor enlisted quarters, lunch with non-commissioned officers and junior Marines and visits to other various sites throughout the air station. The purpose of the visit was to view the troop welfare and operational readiness of the air station.
