Professor Geoffrey Marcy, astrophysicist, holding a globe of the planet Mars. Marcy is one of the world's leading researchers into planets around stars other than our Sun. He is professor of astronomy at University California, Berkeley, USA, In 1995 he confirmed the discovery of the first extrasolar planet around a sun-like star, 51 Pegasi B (discovered by Didier Queloz and Michael Mayor). Together with his team, he has since discovered over 110 other planets including: the smallest planet, around Gliese 876 , and the first multiple planet system, around Upsilon Andromedae.
