Fungal infection of the lung. Light micrograph of a section through lung tissue showing coccidioidomycosis, a disease caused by the inhalation of fungal spores. The spores are mainly found in desert regions. They cause the formation of abscesses and scarring in the lung tissue. Symptoms include a cough (that may include blood), fever, weight loss and chest pain. Some people display no symptoms. Antifungal drugs can be used to treat the infection. Magnification unknown.
