12/03/13 With a reputation for multiplying quicker than most other animals, these chocolate bunnies are giving their wild cousins a run for their money as a staggering one and a half million 'bounce' their way along the production line at the largest British chocolate company in time for Easter. The Thorntons factory in Alfreton, is reaching the end of its Easter production, and the rabbits are some of the last seasonal choccies being made at the Derbyshire factory. Since the takeover of Cadburys by US company Kraft, Thorntons is now the largest independent chocolate and confectionery company in the United Kingdom. They began making chocolate here in 1911. After being moulded from warm liquid chocolate the Easter bunnies are spun and cooled on giant spinning machines before being boxed-up and sent to shops across the country. This year Thorntons have made a record ???? eggs. Marketing Manager Emma Tagg said: "This year we're making more Easter chocolate than ever before. We've also seen a huge increase in the amount of white and dark chocolate we're selling. Ten years ago it was almost all milk chocolate at Easter but tastes seem to changing."
