WWII - A mid atlantic rescue by an American ship, the 'American Farmer' of crewmen from the British vessel s s 'Kafiristan' sunk by a German torpedo. The cargo ship (5,193 GRT, 1924) was torpedoed and sunk in the Atlantic Ocean 300 nautical miles (560 km) sw of Ireland by a Uboat U-53 ( Kriegsmarine) with the loss of six of her thirty-five crew.
