Ethanoic acid, glacial and liquid. Both bottles contain ethanoic acid (, also known as acetic acid), but glacial acetic acid is the water free (anhydrous) form. Pure, water-free ethanoic acid freezes to a colourless at degrees Celsius, just below normal room temperature. Ethanoic acid is the chemical that gives vinegar its sour taste and strong smell.
