It is connected to the muffle by means ofa thermocouple, which registers the temperature generatedin the muffle. If the fusing point of the metal or porcelainbody is known, it can be fused without opening the muffledoor, by simply watching the needle of the pryometer andreducing the current in the muffle as soon as the requiredtemperature is registered. The pyrometer is a very delicate instrument and some-what expensive. It works independently of the ordinaryelectric current supply and develops a thermal-electriccurrent in its own current. The thermo-couple consistsof two pieces of wire, platinum, and iridium, which areinsulated from each other, except at their extreme of the ends are fused together while the other two haveflexible wires attached for connecting them to the terminalsof the pyrometer.
