Illustration of Joseph Guichard Duverney (1648-1730), French anatomist, physician and researcher, giving an anatomy lesson. Duverney received his medical degree in 1667 and moved to Paris, becoming anatomist at the Royal Academy of Sciences in 1676. He was known for his meticulous dissections of both humans and animals. He received animals from the menagerie of King Louis XIV upon their death and dissected an elephant and panther amongst others. He is best known for his work on the anatomy and physiology of the ear.
