Michael Bunel / Le Pictorium - Ukraine Donbass War - 07/05/2014 - Ukraine / Donbass / Odessa - View on Kulikova square from a broken window of the trade union house where 42 people died in a fire following clashes between Russian and Ukrainian pro's. After the Euromaidan revolution in winter 2013 in Kyiv, then the annexation of Crimea in March by Russia, it is the turn of the Donbass Oblast in eastern Ukraine to sink into chaos pitting the new government of Kyiv against pro-Russian separatists. Ukraine, a young country of about 50 years old, displays a national pride visible to all. The blue and yellow, the color of the Ukrainian flag are present everywhere. Kiosks, buses, clothes and banks are all a representation of these national colors. These were adopted in 1918 during the first Ukrainian independence. They are the illustration of the natural elements of Ukraine, the blue symbolizing the sky and the yellow representing the many fields of Wheat, one of the main sources of prosperity of the country. We can therefore wonder what will become of these colors when a new flag, that of the People's Republic of Donestk, already decorates part of the administrative buildings. The new republic would be ready to erase these signs and establish a new order. The task seems difficult when all around us life is seen through these colors. The economy, already in bad shape, suffers from a real supply problem. The banks operating only sporadically in Donetsk as in Slaviansk, bastion of the separatists and where to withdraw some Grivnas has become a real obstacle course. Stores display discount prices one everywhere as well and restaurants have all simply raised their prices by at least ten percent. So what does the future hold for this country when the newly elected fifth president, Petro Poroshenko, has just been elected?
