Yet the county secured the office. In October ofthis year, it was removed to Winnebago City, and was opened forbusiness about the 4th day of November. It was agieat accession to the business of the town where located, as per-sons taking up lands over a very large territory, attended at the office,to enter or prove up their lands, who expended more or less money,during their stay. It stimulated enterprise and improvement athome, and gave the town where located, a name and prestige, whichattracted immigration and capital from abroad. It was an auspicious event for Winnebago City and a great con-venience and advantage to the people of the whole county. One ofthe citizens of the county, Mr. J. H.
