Otaksa, A Japanese variety, producing immense heads of pink flowers. used for Easter decoration. Hortensio flarlesii. -A. most distinct variety, remark- able for the very large size of its sterile flowers, often 3 inches across, and which are arranged on the outer edge of tlie truss; in color light pink on opening, changing to a pure mauve. — Variegata. While the flowers of this variety are not so showy as in the ty|.e, the foliage is handsomely variegated, the ground color being of a creamy white, with irregular blotches and markings of light and dark green in the centre, making it an attractive plant at all times, and a pleasing object either as a pot plant or when planted in the open. — Rosea.
