Hyacinth macaw in a tree. The hyacinth macaw (Anodorhynchus hyacinthinus) is the largest parrot in the world, reaching a length of a metre with a metre wingspan. It feeds on nuts, which it crack open with its powerful bill, as well as fruits and other plant material. It inhabits wetlands and riverside forest edges in central South America.
