The genus Aurelia is found throughout the world's oceans, with a preference of water temperatures ranging from 6 to 19 degree Celsius. They drift through the water feeding on plankton, including smaller crustaceans, mollusk larvae, fish eggs etc. These jellyfish are easy to identify by their four horseshoe-shaped gonads, easily seen through the top of the bell. They can grow up to about 25–40 cm (10–16 in) in diameter.
