Albert Fert (born 1938). French physicist Albert Fert (right) looking at a robotic arm. Fert is best known as one of the discoverers of giant magnetoresistance, which enabled the production of gigabyte-sized hard disks. This discovery won him, and Peter Grunberg, the 2007 Nobel Prize in Physics. Photographed at the LAAS (Laboratory for analysis and architecture of systems) of the CNRS (Centre national de la recherche scientifique), France.
