Garfield Williamson, of New York city, was in Chicago last week. His specialty is grass seed. A. P. Dewar, store manager of R. & J. Farquhar & Co., Boston, and Mrs. Dewar will sail for Europe June 26. Though retail sales have passed the spring rush, the number of excellent wholesale orders leads E. B. Howe, presi- dent of the W. W. Barnard Co., Chicago, to believe the seed trade has better times ahead. Seedsmen will put in a full week, start- ing June 20 at Memphis, where the 2- day convention of the Southern Seeds- men's Association is held, and continu- ing June 22 to 24 at St. Louis, where the American Seed Trade Association will meet for three days. Hjalmar Hartmann, of Hjalinar Hart- mann & Co., Copenhagen, Denmark, in company with Charles Loeehner, of Loech- ner & Co., New York, the company's United States representative, was in Chi- cago June 14. From Chicago, his itin- erary led to Minneapolis, Memphis and St. Louis, and then home. At the establishment of the Leonard Seed Co., 226-230 West Kinzie street, Chicago, the time of inventory is made even busier by the change in arrangement of the packing rooms and oflBces. The oflBces are being moved up to the second floor and the packing rooms given more space on the ground floor. In company with John C. Bodger, Wal- ter Bodger and Fred H. Howard, J. M. Bridgeford, managing director of Wat- kins & Simpson, London, England, last week made a tour of the seed farms of W. Atlee Burpee Co., at Lompoc, Cal., and those of the L. D. Waller Seed Co., at (!uadal()uj)e, Cal. Mr. Bridgeford ex- pressed himself enthusiastically regard- inif the Burpee sweet peas. PROGRAM AT ST.
