Wendover Dean, UK. 24th September, 2023. HS2 have destroyed a large part of Jones Hill Wood, an ancient woodland, in Wendover Dean, Buckinghamshire as they are building a railway viaduct for the High Speed Rail. HS2's mitigation for their destruction, has been to take some of the ancient woodland floor and felled tree limbs, and stick them in a nearby field (they call this translocation) and put some bat boxes on them. They have also planted a number of tree saplings and shrubs but most of them are dead as they are not maintained by HS2. Credit: Maureen McLean/Alamy
