The 6,000 specially-baked currant buns, which feature a crown design on the top, were thrown from the roof of the county hall by the Mayor, Councillor Alice Badcock and council members into the crowds below. Abingdon has marked major royal occasions with bun throwing ever since the 1761 coronation of King George III. Bun-Throwings only take place when the Town Council votes to hold one to mark a royal occasion - in recent years they have been held to mark the 2011 Royal Wedding and the 2012 Jubilee.
